Puppies ...

… were born on September 18th. These were very good news, because we had not really counted on that any longer. Though the parents, Senja and Tiro, had been in our “honeymoon” kennel, their activities did not seem to aim towards future puppies.
Well, now we know better. There must have been activities nonetheless.

Six healthy and strong puppies are cuddling up against their proud mother, who now has to interrupt the training for at least two weeks.

The father, by the way, is not questionable: every one of the six puppies is black/white, just like Tiro. None resembles the mother who is all white.

Husky training

A few days later than usual, on September 4th we could start the husky training. Because of the warm days of beginning September it first seemed like we would have to delay the training even longer.

But then the temperature dropped below 10 degrees C, just about enough for the dogs to tolerate.
This year, Eveline and Roman from Switzerland will train the dogs. Both of them are already experienced sled dog trainers: Roman was in Alaska a few years ago, training the dogs of a lady form Switzerland who lives there.

And Eveline did the job two years ago here on our Huskyfarm. It is good to know that the dogs will get a good training and preparation for the touring season.

  A fine winter …..2006/05/22
A fine winter …..

….is saying good-bye.

It was a fine winter because the weather was on our side during the whole season. It was just as we needed, especially and most important on the two long trips over 14 days to Kebnekaise
mountain – the highest mountain of Sweden.

Only the storm “Narve” showed us how pitiless nature can be. There are no records about similar devastations after a storm in this area. But, as always, the bad weather was eventually followed by good weather and we could experience the most beautiful sunsets at the end of the polar night.

A positive surprise for us has been the many families that visited us during the winter.
Already around Christmas were kids warming themselves by a campfire in our lavvu (tipi)
after dog sledding around the husky farm.

On the 16th of May was it snowing for the last time. The winter is over now and we put the sledges and the winter equipment away. The snow on the mountain tops is melting and the water is filling the rivers and lakes to the brim.
We and, of course, the dogs are enjoying the warm sun of the spring.

Huskytraining has started

While the mountains around Innset turn snow white, the second week of the dog training begins. This year Suse Cordsen and Niklas Hoeft from the northern part of Germany take up this challenge. The dogs are very pleased that the warmer seasons are now finally saying good-bye and the winter is on its way.

The fall seems to say hello for just a few days. When the trees were just turning into the colours of the Indian Summer it started to snow. Now there already is a thick layer of snow in the mountains, which keeps us from hiking tours. We have to take the skies.

Besides the training of the dogs, the building of sleds keeps us busy this fall. Because of the great interest in our new offers "Huskyfarm- and Family-Holidays" we need more of the small and light sleds we use for day trips.
