Husky ski trekking
(8 days)
1. day
We pick you up at Bardufoss airport and take you to the Huskyfarm. Here we will introduce you to the other participants and the dogs. We will discuss the tour, weather and snow conditions. In the evening we will invite you to a welcome dinner serving local food dishes.
2. Day
You will have the possibility to get used to your husky dog and the equipment. There are two different ways of handling the pulka together with the dog which you might try both. We show you the best way to pack the pulka, how you work with your dog as a team, how you use the ropes and belts you will need and all you need to know.
Then we will start towards the first cabin, the Gaskas hytta. As this will be a rather easy first leg you will have the opportunity to learn some more already under “real tour conditions”.
The cosy Gaskas hytta is located in a birch tree forest in a side valley North of lake Altevatn. Here we will have dinner in front of a warm oven and discuss the day, the weather and snow conditions and, with the experiences of the first day in mind, the further course of our tour.
3. - 7. day
The further course depends mainly on the weather and
snow conditions and our experiences of the first day. We have different
possibilities to choose from:
The most challenging option will
lead us high above the tree line into the Dividal National Park to
Vuoma hytta. This cabin, like the Gaskas hytta belongs to a cabin line
the local outdoor-and-hiking club (DNT) has built along the border
trail Nordkalottleden. From here we can take off on a day trip without
the heavy pulkas into the nearby Anjavassdalen with its great landscape
and view onto the surrounding mountains.
Skiing over a 1000 m high
pass we will reach our next accommodation, our lavvu. We will have a
cosy evening in this original Sami tipi (lavvu) at the bottom of the
majestic Råkkunbårri, one of the highest mountains of the area. The
lavvu has an oven, so a good night sleep in the warmth lying on
reindeer skins will be guaranteed.
South from the lavvu, the
Stordalen (in English: „great/wide valley“) invites us to a day trip
–again without heavy luggage. Here we will have the chance to discover
trails of wolverine, fox, ptarmigan, lynx and Alpine hare.
The
last day of the tour offers two possibilities depending on the weather.
We might either take the way over the mountains: up Krokdalen through
and down the valley Salvasskardet to Innset. Or we take the easiest way
over the ice of lake Altevatn to Innset.
8. Day
After a good night sleep in a regular bed on the Huskyfarm and an extensive breakfast you have to say good bye to your husky and we will take you to the airport.
Of course, you are welcome to
stay longer. The price for the stay in our guesthouse is Euro 25,--
(self catering in the fully equipped kitchen).
